RFXtrx433XL USB 433.92MHz Transceiver

In the past i used the old (I think even the first) model RFXtrx433, but with the arrival of my gardenroom shades that are powered by a Somfy RTS motor, I had to upgrade to the XL version.

There are a lot of ways to send and receive 433 MHz signals 'on the cheap', but from day one (this is basically the item that started my domotica system) I am using the RFXtrx433XL from RFXcom, and it has never let me down since.

Integrating it into Home Assistant is very simple, you just have to add the below code into your configuration.yaml file and set up all the devide id's.

<-- copy code below -->

rfxtrx:
  device: /dev/ttyUSB0
  automatic_add: false
  devices:
    [YOUR DEVICE ID'S]:

<-- #end -->

The pro's:

  • Plug and play with an USB connector, no need to solder or script anything besides the code for the configuration.yaml file.
  • Sturdy housing with excellent signal.

The cons:

  • More expensive then a diy 433 MHz tranciever (at the time of this post, the RFXtrx433XL is priced at € 89,75)
